Water Monitoring Volunteer (many)
LPLA is looking for volunteers to investigate water quality in Hay Creek & Bullard Creek—two local trout streams impaired for e-coli. Volunteers will work in teams of 3-5 people and monitor sites once a week from April-October, depending on conditions.
Collect water samples from a safe location
Use secchi tube to measure water clarity
Determine phosphorus concentration
Process water sample for e-coli plate & analysis
Record complete and accurate data
Implement quality assurance steps
Provide program feedback to LPLA staff
No direct experience necessary.
Ability to work with others.
Training & equipment provided.
Volunteer leads require at least 1-year of water monitoring experience.
Must provide your own transportation
Must be able to travel to Red Wing
Volunteers work in teams of 3-5 people
Open to all ages; great opportunity for families and school groups
Volunteers under 18 years of age require parent permission
1x/week from Apr-Oct
2-4 hours each week
Flexibility available; coordinated with each team
