LPLA’s 2nd Annual Legacy Concert honors Terry Woeltge, an avid Lake Pepin sailor and LPLA member, who passed away last summer. Terry’s family established a memorial fund to honor his legacy.

The Band: The Pistol Whippin' Party Penguins are a bluegrass string band with original songs about the river. From their website:

"Straight from the great Mill City comes the Pistol Whippin Party Penguins. Don't let the name fool you! This is not a violent group of flightless aquatic birds looking for a party, but rather 5 self-proclaimed gentlemen, 2 guitars, a mandolin, a bucket of fiddles, an upright bass, a banjo, and a 4 part vocal harmony... As they prepare to release their 4th studio album this fall/winter, this quintet from Minneapolis strives to maintain the original spirit of the "string band" while continuing to play new original music and creative cover songs. The combination of folk, rock, blues, bluegrass, and the occasional stage banter will create an experience that anyone can enjoy!"

The Venue: Liberty Tree Farm is a unique outdoor concert venue with a renovated open-barn stage surrounded by forest and trails. Wooden benches with backrests, picnic tables, firepit, and dance floor are available for attendees to enjoy in the forest opening. A modern building has restrooms with clean portable toilets. Outdoor parking is available for as many cars as needed. Only a short walk from parking to the stage area.

"Beautiful setting, awesome old barn, unbelievable music, friendly staff, hot fire and cold beer! ! enjoyed every minute!"

"Liberty tree farm is truly a slice of paradise on this earth! "

"Everything about the place feels good. The moment you enter the farm you can feel the love and the vision of a better world. "

"Magical."

The Cause:  Lake Pepin Legacy Alliance (LPLA) is a grassroots organization working to save a disappearing Lake Pepin by advocating for upstream sediment reduction and initiating local projects to manage sediment input. Every year, a sediment load—the size of a city block filled to the height of the Foshay Tower in downtown Minneapolis—accumulates at the head of the lake. With sedimentation rates 10x above normal, the lake is in a fight for survival. It has two water quality impairments and is expected to prematurely disappear in just a few generations.
