The Band

The Pistol Whippin' Party Penguins are a bluegrass string band with original songs about the river. From their website:

Straight from the great Mill City comes the Pistol Whippin Party Penguins. Don't let the name fool you! This is not a violent group of flightless aquatic birds looking for a party, but rather 5 self-proclaimed gentlemen, 2 guitars, a mandolin, a bucket of fiddles, an upright bass, a banjo, and a 4 part vocal harmony... As they prepare to release their 4th studio album this fall/winter, this quintet from Minneapolis strives to maintain the original spirit of the "string band" while continuing to play new original music and creative cover songs. The combination of folk, rock, blues, bluegrass, and the occasional stage banter will create an experience that anyone can enjoy!

We Now Have An Opening Band!

The High Vibes! is an energetic cover band that regularly plays at local happenings along this stretch of the river. They will be kicking the night off with an upbeat set, starting at 6 PM.

The Venue

Liberty Tree Farm is a unique outdoor concert venue with a renovated open-barn stage surrounded by forest and trails. Wooden benches with backrests, picnic tables, firepit, and trails are available for attendees to enjoy. A modern building has restrooms with clean portable toilets. Outdoor parking is available for as many cars as needed. Only a short walk from parking to the stage area.

The Food

The Chef Shack Bay City is on a mission to bring organic, tasty street food to everybody at an affordable price. We’re lucky that their food truck will be onsite during the event to deliver delicious dishes for anybody eager to treat their tastebuds! The award-winning chefs are even creating an exclusive Kernza(R) brownie for the evening in a nod to sustainable agriculture and perennial crops that have the power to reduce upstream erosion and protect Lake Pepin.

The Cause

Lake Pepin Legacy Alliance (LPLA) advocates for upstream sediment reduction and local sediment management to improve water quality, habitat, and accessibility in this vital stretch of the Mississippi River. With sedimentation rates 10x above normal, the lake is in a fight for survival. It has two water quality impairments and is expected to prematurely disappear in just a few generations.

The Covid Precautions

Liberty Tree Farm has a large outdoor space for up to 300 people to safely social distance between households. We will be monitoring the CDC recommendations, implementing best practices, and communicating with attendees as we get closer to the scheduled date. Recommendations currently include: wearing masks if unvaccinated, maintaining social distancing between households, practicing good hygiene, and staying home if you feel sick.

We will continue to monitor changes and update attendees with more details as we get closer to the date. Please do what you can to reduce the spread of Covid-19 so we can get back to safely enjoying summer events again!
